Chapter 66: To Whom Does the Body Belong?

At one time, the Buddha lived in the Garden of Solitude in the Gion Grove of the Acropolis. One day, the Buddha said to his monks, "Disciples, this body is not yours, nor does it belong to anyone else or anything else. Disciples, your current body is the result of your past bodily actions, spoken words, and inner thoughts, and your present body is a continuation of the results of past actions, words, and thoughts. Your present feelings are also a continuation of past actions, words, and thoughts.

The disciples, the holy disciples who have been taught by Rulai, should carefully remember according to the Dhamma as Lai said: "When this exists, that will exist, when this happens, it appears, that will also happen and appear." When this does not exist, does not exist, that will not exist, when this one disappears, disappears, that one will also disappear and disappear." Disciples, this is the method of dependent origin (for the explanation of the method of dependent origin, see chapters 48 and 49), that is: "action" will be produced with "ignorance" as a precondition, "knowledge" will be produced with "action" as a precondition, "name" will be produced with "knowledge" as a precondition, "six places" will be produced with "six places" as a precondition, "touch" will be produced with "touch" as a precondition, "receive" will be produced with "acceptance" as a precondition, and "love" will be produced with "acceptance" as a prerequisite As a prerequisite, "taking" will be produced, "taking" will be produced as a prerequisite, "being" will be produced as a prerequisite, and "birth" will be produced as a prerequisite, and sorrow, sadness, distress, worry, despair, aging, and death will be produced as a prerequisite. Disciples, this is the process by which the sufferings and troubles of the world's people gather.

Disciples, when "confusion" completely fades, dissipates, and is destroyed, there will be no "action", "knowledge" will not arise after "action" is eliminated, "name" will not be produced after "knowledge" is destroyed, "six places" will not be produced after "famous color" is eliminated, "touch" will not be produced after "touch" is eliminated, "touch" will not occur after "touch" is eliminated, "love" will not be produced after "acceptance" is eliminated, "take" will not be produced after "love" is eliminated, "take" will not be produced after "taking" is eliminated, "have" will not be produced after "take" is eliminated, and "being" will not be produced after "being" is eliminated After "birth" is removed, there will be no sorrow, sadness, bitterness, worry, despair, aging, and death. Disciples, this is the process of eliminating the sufferings and troubles of the world. ”

After the Buddha's teachings, the monks who listened to the teachings all paid homage to the Buddha again, praising the immeasurable merits of the Buddha's teachings, and they all practiced according to the Buddha's teachings.
