Chapter 63: Forty-eight Liberating Wisdoms
At one time, the Buddha lived in the Garden of Solitude in the Gion Grove of the Acropolis. One day, the Buddha said to his monks, "Disciples, if you come now to explain to you, the forty-eight wisdoms, you should listen carefully, you should think carefully, and if you come, you should begin to speak. ”
The monks replied, "Shi Venerable, we will listen carefully to what you have to say, we will think about it seriously, and I respectfully ask you to speak for us." ”
The Buddha said, "Disciples, what are the forty-eight types of wisdom? That is the wisdom of understanding the 48 types of liberation, and these 48 wisdoms are: the wisdom of understanding the causes of "old death", the wisdom of understanding the disappearance and death of "old death", and the wisdom of understanding the practice of eliminating "old death".
Understand the wisdom of "birth", the wisdom of understanding the cause of "birth", the wisdom of understanding the disappearance and death of "birth", the wisdom of understanding the practice of eliminating "birth".
Understand the wisdom of "being", understand the wisdom of "being" causes, understand the wisdom of "being" disappearing and perishing, and understand the wisdom of eliminating "have" practice methods.
Understand the wisdom of "taking", the wisdom of understanding the cause of "taking", the wisdom of "taking" disappearing and perishing, and the wisdom of eliminating the practice of "taking".
Understand the wisdom of "love", the wisdom of understanding the causes of "love", the wisdom of understanding the disappearance and death of "love", and the wisdom of the practice of eliminating "love".
Understand the wisdom of "receiving", the wisdom of understanding the cause of "receiving", the wisdom of understanding the disappearance and death of "receiving", and the wisdom of eliminating the practice of "receiving".

The wisdom of understanding "confusion", the wisdom of understanding the causes of "confusion", the wisdom of understanding the disappearance and demise of "confusion", the wisdom of understanding the practice of eliminating "confusion".
Disciples, these are the wisdom of the forty-eight types of liberation.
Disciples, what is "old death"? All living beings in the world, every type of being, they will have aging, such as tooth loss, hair and hair whitening, skin wrinkles, life expectancy slowly decreasing over time, eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, inner body, these organs and sensations in the body will slowly degenerate, this is "old". All living beings in the world, every kind of sentient being, they will die, perish, die, all organs of the body will lose their function, after their death, the body will decay and disappear, these are called "death", disciples, aging and death are collectively called "old death".
When "birth" occurs and appears, there will be "old death" and appearance. With the emergence of "life" as a prerequisite, "old age" will occur. When "life" is destroyed, "old death" will be destroyed, and the practice method of eliminating "old death" is the Noble Eightfold Path (for the explanation of the Noble Eightfold Path, see Chapter 18), what is the Noble Eightfold Path? These are: right view, right thinking, right speech, right karma, right life, right progress, right mind, and right determination.
The disciples, the holy disciples who practice according to the Dharma, understand the causes of "old death", understand the disappearance and demise of "old death", and understand the practice method of eliminating "old death". They will understand the truth and rules of the world, they will understand the wisdom that Rulai has taught them, they have heard the teachings, they have understood the jurisprudence of this law, they have immediately opened wisdom, they have completely integrated this law into their spiritual practice, and they will be able to reason about the past, present, and future: all the monks and practitioners of the past have realized the wisdom of "old death", the wisdom of knowing the cause of "old death", the wisdom of realizing the disappearance and death of "old death", Enlightenment learns the wisdom of the practice of eliminating "old death." From this, they realized the truth and rules of everything in the world. Now, like them in the past, I have realized the wisdom of these liberations.
All monks and practitioners in the future will also realize the wisdom of "old death", the wisdom of the cause of "old death", the wisdom of learning the disappearance and death of "old death", and the wisdom of eliminating the practice method of "old death". They will also realize the truth and rules of everything in the world. They in the future, like me now, will realize the wisdom of these liberations.
They will have this wisdom to reason, to observe the past, the present, and the future.
Disciples, when the holy disciples have realized the wisdom of the Dhamma, they have realized the wisdom of reasoning, observing the past, the present, and the future. When they have realized these two pure and pure wisdoms, they are called fully enlightened disciples with the right view, and they are called holy disciples with sufficient right view. Disciples who have seen the Dharma, disciples who understand the Dharma, disciples who have sufficient insight, disciples who are practicing according to the Dharma, they are already on the road of gradually liberating themselves from troubles and suffering, they are already knocking on the door of immortality, they are gradually reaching the state of immortality and immortality, they have gradually liberated themselves from the torment and pain of the cycle of life and death.
Disciples, what is "birth"? That is, there are different kinds of beings in the world, there are births, reincarnations, and rebirths of beings, and there are manifestations and production of worldly things, bodies, feelings, thoughts, actions, and cognitions, and the emergence of places that accommodate the existence and living of sentient beings. The disciples are called "births."
"There is" happens, there appears, there is "birth" occurs and appears. With the appearance of "being" as a prerequisite, "birth" will arise. The practice of destroying "life" is the Noble Eightfold Path (Eightfold Path explanation, see Chapter 18), what is the Noble Eightfold Path? These are: right view, right thinking, right speech, right karma, right life, right progress, right mind, and right determination.
The disciples, the holy disciples who practice according to the Dhamma, understand the "birth", understand the cause of "birth", understand the disappearance and demise of "birth", and understand the practice method of eliminating "life". They will understand the truth and rules of the world, they will understand the wisdom that Rulai has taught them, they have heard the teachings, they have understood the jurisprudence of this law, they have immediately opened wisdom, they have thoroughly integrated this law into their spiritual practice, and they will be able to reason about the past, the present, and the future: all the monks and practitioners of the past have realized the wisdom of "birth", the wisdom of realizing the cause of "birth", and the wisdom of realizing that "birth" disappears and perishes. Enlightenment learns the wisdom of the practice of destroying "life". From this, they realized the truth and rules of everything in the world. Now, like them in the past, I have realized the wisdom of these liberations.
All monks and practitioners in the future will also have enlightenment to know the wisdom of "birth", enlightenment to know the wisdom of the cause of "birth", enlightenment to know the wisdom of "birth" disappearing and perishing, and enlightenment to know the wisdom of destroying "life" practice methods.
Disciples, what is "being"? It is the generation of karma, good deeds are rewarded, and evil deeds are rewarded. If the actual behavior of behavior, speech, and thought is produced in order to satisfy desire, then there will be karma in terms of desire; If it is an actual act of acting, speaking, or thinking about things in the world, then there will be karma in material things. If it is an actual act that produces actions, words, and thoughts in terms of spiritual thought, then there will be karma in spiritual thought, in short, destruction, damage, harm to things, sentient beings, then the person or sentient being who commits these acts will also be destroyed, damaged, and harmed. When disciples have karma, karma arises as "being."
When "taking" occurs and appears, there will be "have" occurring and appearing. With the appearance of "taking" as a prerequisite, "have" will arise. The practice of eliminating the Noble Eightfold Path (Eightfold Path Explanation, Chapter 18) is the Noble Eightfold Path? These are: right view, right thinking, right speech, right karma, right life, right progress, right mind, and right determination.
The disciples, the holy disciples who practice according to the Dharma, understand the "have", understand the cause of "have", understand the disappearance and demise of "have", and understand the practice method of eliminating "being". They will understand the truth and rules of the world, they will understand the wisdom that Rulai has taught them, they have heard the Dharma, they have understood the jurisprudence of this law, they have immediately opened wisdom, they have thoroughly integrated this law into their spiritual practice, and they will be able to reason about the past, the present, and the future: all the monks and practitioners of the past have realized the wisdom of "being", the wisdom of the cause of "being", the wisdom of realizing that "there is" disappears and perishes. Enlightenment learns the wisdom of eliminating the "have" method of practice. From this, they realized the truth and rules of everything in the world. Now, like them in the past, I have realized the wisdom of these liberations.
All future monks and practitioners will also have enlightenment to know the wisdom of "being", the wisdom of the cause of "being", the wisdom of realizing the disappearance and death of "being", and the wisdom of destroying the practice of "being". They will also realize the truth and rules of everything in the world. They in the future, like me now, will realize the wisdom of these liberations.
They will have this wisdom to reason, to observe the past, the present, and the future.

Disciples, what is "taking"? It is to be persistent, to grasp, to have greed for things in the world, to persist, persistent; clinging to erroneous opinions that are not in line with cause and effect; attachment to abstinences and taboos that have nothing to do with liberation; Attaching to the thesis that there is a real self in the world, in order to pursue and obtain these covetous and attached things and thoughts, produces physical behavior, oral speech, and actual behavior that generates thoughts in the heart, this is called "taking".
When "love" occurs and appears, "taking" occurs and appears. With the emergence of "love" as a prerequisite, "taking" will arise. When "love" is destroyed, "taking" will be destroyed, and the practice method of eliminating "taking" is the Noble Eightfold Path (for the explanation of the Noble Eightfold Path, see Chapter 18), what is the Noble Eightfold Path? These are: right view, right thinking, right speech, right karma, right life, right progress, right mind, and right determination.

Enlightenment learns the wisdom of eliminating the practice of "taking". From this, they realized the truth and rules of everything in the world. Now, like them in the past, I have realized the wisdom of these liberations.

Disciples, what is "love"? That is, craving, that is, the world's people's craving for material things, the covetousness of the body, the covetousness of sound, the covetousness of smell, the covetousness of taste, the covetousness of touch and feeling, the covetousness of the heart for all kinds of external things, spiritual thoughts, disciples, these are called "love".
When "receive" occurs and appears, "love" occurs and appears. With the appearance of "receive" as a prerequisite, "love" will arise. The practice of destroying "love" is the Noble Eightfold Path (Eightfold Path explanation, see Chapter 18), what is the Noble Eightfold Path? Disciples, what is "receiving"? It is the feeling that all beings in the world have after they come into contact with external things, things, and spiritual thoughts. The feelings that the eyes produce after seeing things, the feelings that arise after the ears hear sounds, the feelings that arise after the nose smells the smell, the feelings that arise after the tongue tastes the taste, the feelings that arise after the body touches things, and the feelings that arise after the heart touches external things and spiritual thoughts. The disciples are called "receives."

Disciples, what is "confusion"? I just don't understand that the Four Noble Truths of the Way of Suffering and Annihilation are called "ignorance", and what are the Four Noble Truths of the Way of Suffering and Destruction? That is, all beings born in the world are very painful, the root of suffering is craving, and only by first eliminating craving can we eliminate suffering, and the way to eliminate suffering is to practice the Noble Eightfold Path (Eightfold Path explanation, see Chapter 18) disciples, who do not understand that the Four Noble Truths of the Way of Suffering and Annihilation are called "ignorance".
The disciples, the holy disciples who practice according to the Dhamma, understand the "confusion", understand the causes of "confusion", understand the disappearance and demise of "confusion", and understand the practice method of eliminating "confusion". They will understand the truth and rules of the world, they will understand the wisdom that Rulai has taught them, they have heard the Dharma, they have understood the jurisprudence of this law, they have immediately opened wisdom, they have completely integrated this Dharma into their spiritual practice, and they will be able to reason about the past, the present, and the future: all the monks and practitioners of the past have realized the wisdom of "confusion", they have realized the wisdom of the cause of "confusion", and they have realized the wisdom of "confusion" disappearing and perishing, enlightenment learns the wisdom of the practice of eliminating "ignorance". From this, they realized the truth and rules of everything in the world. Now, like them in the past, I have realized the wisdom of these liberations.
All monks and practitioners in the future will also realize the wisdom of "confusion", the wisdom of the causes of "confusion", the wisdom of realizing the disappearance and death of "ignorance", and the wisdom of eliminating the practice of "confusion". They will also realize the truth and rules of everything in the world. They in the future, like me now, will realize the wisdom of these liberations.

Disciples are called the method of dependent origin (for the explanation of the method of dependent origin, see chapters 48 and 49), in a nutshell, "ignorance" will not produce "action" after it is destroyed, "knowledge" will not be produced after "action" is eliminated, "name" will not produce "name" after "knowledge" is destroyed, "six places" will not be produced after "six places" are eliminated, "touch" will not be produced after "touch" is eliminated, "receive" will not be produced after "touch" is eliminated, "love" will not be produced after "acceptance" is eliminated, and "love" will not be produced after "love" is eliminated There will be no "have" after elimination, no "birth" after "being" is eliminated, and no sorrow, sadness, bitterness, worry, despair, aging, death after the elimination of "birth". Disciples, this is the process of eliminating the sufferings and troubles of the world.
Only by practicing in this way can disciples be forever liberated from the torment and pain of the cycle of life and death. ”
After the Buddha's teachings, the monks who listened to the teachings all paid homage to the Buddha again, praising the immeasurable merits of the Buddha's teachings, and they all practiced according to the Buddha's teachings.
