Chapter 60: The Method of Enlightenment and Liberation

At one time, the Buddha lived in the Garden of Solitude in the Gion Grove of the Acropolis. One day, the Buddha said to his monks, "Disciples, such as those who have opened wisdom, can be freed from their troubles and sufferings. Disciples, what wisdom should be opened to get rid of troubles and suffering? That is to know and understand: "How did the material things of the world, including the material bodies of the world, come together and form?" How did the material things of the world, including the material bodies of people in the world, gradually decay, perish, and disappear? How do feelings come together? How do feelings gradually decay, perish, and disappear? How do thoughts come together? How do thoughts gradually decay, perish, and disappear? How do behaviors come together? How does behavior gradually decay, perish, disappear? How do recognition, distinction, and judgment come together? How did recognition, distinction, and judgment gradually decay, perish, and disappear?" Disciples, if you understand the truths and rules of these worlds, you can eliminate your troubles and sufferings.


Disciples, there are prerequisites for the fruit of enlightenment and liberation, what are the prerequisites for the fruit of enlightenment and liberation? That is liberation from all the troubles and sufferings of the world, which is referred to as "liberation." "Liberation" is the prerequisite for enlightenment and liberation.


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "liberation", what are the prerequisites for "liberation"? That is, not worrying about and clinging to all the things in the world, not worrying and clinging to all the thoughts in the heart, this is referred to as "no worry". "No thoughts" is a prerequisite for "liberation."


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "no worry", what are the prerequisites for "no worry"? That is to wake up from the addiction to things in the world, to wake up from the addiction to inner thoughts, this is referred to as "sobriety". "Soberness" is a prerequisite for "no worry".


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "sobriety", what are the prerequisites for "sobriety"? That is to know, understand the truth and rules of the world, and open wisdom, which is referred to as "wisdom". "Wisdom" is a prerequisite for "sobriety."


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for opening "wisdom", what are the prerequisites for opening "wisdom"? That is to let the heart not be cranky, let the heart not scatter, settle in the pure realm, this is referred to as "ding", "determination" is the prerequisite for opening "wisdom".


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "determination", what are the prerequisites for "determination"? That is the state of keeping the body and mind comfortable and happy, which is referred to as "happiness", and "happiness" is the precondition for the production of "determination".


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "music", what are the prerequisites for "music"? That is to make the heart quiet and tranquil, let the body and mind relax and peaceful, this is referred to as "light peace", "light safety" is the precondition for the production of "happiness".


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "light safety", what are the prerequisites for "light safety"? That is to produce great joy in the heart, which is referred to as "joy", and "joy" is the prerequisite for the emergence of "light peace".


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "joy", what are the prerequisites for "joy"? That is to make the body and mind produce pleasant feelings, which is referred to as "joy", and "joy" is the prerequisite for "joy" to occur.


Disciples, "Yue" also has prerequisites, what are the prerequisites for "Yue"? That is to generate strong faith in the Dharma, which is simply called "faith," and "faith" is the precondition for the emergence of "pleasure."


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "faith", what are the prerequisites for "faith"? That is, the body and mind produce disturbing and suffering, and the desire to find a solution to the disturbing and suffering is referred to as "suffering", and "suffering" is the precondition for the emergence of "faith".


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for suffering, but what are the prerequisites for suffering? That is, there are different kinds of beings in the world, there are births, reincarnations, and rebirths of sentient beings, as well as the manifestation and emergence of worldly things, bodies, feelings, thoughts, actions, and separate judgments, and the emergence of various places that accommodate the existence and living of sentient beings, which are referred to as "birth", and "birth" is the precondition for the emergence of "suffering".


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "birth", what are the prerequisites for "birth"? That is, with the generation of karma, good deeds are rewarded, and evil deeds are rewarded. If the actual behavior of behavior, speech, and thought is produced in order to satisfy desire, then there will be karma in terms of desire; If it is an actual act of acting, speaking, or thinking about things in the world, then there will be karma in material things. If it is an actual act that produces actions, words, and thoughts in terms of spiritual thought, then there will be karma in spiritual thought, in short, destruction, damage, harm to things, sentient beings, then the person or sentient being who commits these acts will also be destroyed, damaged, and harmed. The production of karma is referred to as "have", and "being" is the precondition for "birth".


Disciples, there are prerequisites for "being", what are the prerequisites for "being"? That is, there is attachment, attachment, greed, persistence, perseverance and persistence in the things of the world; clinging to erroneous opinions that are not in line with cause and effect; attachment to abstinences and taboos that have nothing to do with liberation; Attaching to the thesis that there is a real self in the world, in order to pursue and obtain these covetous and attached things and thoughts, the actual behavior of physical behavior, oral speech, and inner thoughts arises, this is referred to as "taking". "Taking" is a prerequisite for "being" to arise.


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "taking", what are the prerequisites for "taking"? That is, there is craving for love, that is, people in the world have covetous love for material things, craving for the body, craving for sound, craving for smell, craving for taste, craving for touching feelings, and craving for various external things and spiritual thoughts in the heart, which are referred to as "love". "Love" is the precondition for "taking" to arise.


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "love", what are the prerequisites for "love"? That is, all beings in the world come into contact with things and things in the outside world, and after spiritual thoughts, they have feelings. The eyes have feelings after seeing things, the ears have feelings after hearing sounds, the nose has feelings after smelling smells, the tongue has feelings after tasting tastes, the body has feelings after touching things, and the heart has feelings after touching external things and spiritual thoughts. These are referred to simply as "subjects". "Receive" is the precondition for "love" to arise.


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "acceptance", what are the prerequisites for "acceptance"? That is the things of the outside world, and the spiritual mind is contacted by the body and heart of all beings in the world to produce cognition, that is, the eyes touch things and see things; The ear touches the sound and hears the sound; The nose touches the smell and smells the smell; The tongue touches the food and tastes the taste; The body touches things, creating a sense of touch; The inner contact with external things, spiritual thoughts, and the beginning of thinking, these are referred to as "touch". "Touch" is the precondition for "being".


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "touch", what are the prerequisites for "touch"? That is, there are things from the outside world, spiritual thoughts from the outside world, places where the body and heart of all living beings in the world are in contact, there are "six places": eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind, that is, places where eyes touch things, where ears touch sounds, where noses touch smells, where tongues touch tastes, where bodies touch things, and places where the heart touches external things and spiritual thoughts. Note that there is only contact, not yet contact. That is to say, things and things in the outside world, spiritual thoughts are touched from these places by the bodies and hearts of all living beings in the world. These sentient beings' bodies and hearts come into contact with external things, and the places of spiritual thought are referred to as the "six places." The "six places" are the prerequisites for the emergence of "touch".


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "six places", what are the prerequisites for "six places"? That is, there is spirit, mind, psychology, material things, the manifestation of the body. Spirit, mind, and psychology are called "names", and material things and bodies are called "colors". Spiritual, mental, mental, and material things, including the body of a person or being, are collectively referred to as "names." "Famous color" is the precondition for the emergence of "six places".


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "famous color", what are the prerequisites for "famous color"? That is, the external things and things, as well as the spiritual thought, have the understanding, distinction, judgment, such as the eyes know, distinguish, judge things, the ear knows, distinguish, judge the sound, the nose recognizes, distinguishes, judges the smell, the tongue recognizes, distinguishes, judges the taste, the body knows, distinguishes, judges the feeling of touch, the inner knows, distinguishes, judges the thoughts. For things and things in the outside world, spiritual thoughts produce understanding, distinction, and judgment, which is called "knowledge". "Knowledge" is the precondition for the emergence of "fame".


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "knowledge", what are the prerequisites for "knowledge"? That is to produce three kinds of behavior: physical behavior, oral speech, and inner thoughts. The creation and production of actions, words, and thoughts is "action." "Doing" is the precondition for the emergence of "knowledge".


Disciples, there are also prerequisites for "walking", what are the prerequisites for "doing"? That is, they do not understand that all beings born in the world are very painful, that the root of suffering is craving, that only by first eliminating craving can we eliminate suffering, and that the way to eliminate suffering is to practice the Noble Eightfold Path (the Noble Eightfold Path explanation, see Chapter 18), and not understanding that the Four Noble Truths of the Way of Suffering and Annihilation are called "ignorance". "Confusion" is the precondition for "doing" to arise.


Disciples, like this: "action" is produced with "ignorance" as a prerequisite, "knowledge" is produced with "action" as a precondition, "name" is produced with "knowledge" as a precondition, "six places" is produced with "famous color" as a precondition, "touch" is produced with "touch" as a precondition, "receive" is produced with "touch" as a precondition, "love" is produced with "acceptance" as a precondition, "take" is produced with "love" as a precondition, "take" is produced with "taking" as a precondition As a prerequisite arises "birth", with "birth" as the precondition to produce "suffering", with "suffering" as the precondition, we want to find a way to solve problems and pains, so as to produce "faith" for the Dharma of Rulai, "joy" with "faith" as the precondition, "joy" as the precondition to produce "joy", "happiness" as the precondition to produce "light peace", "happiness" as the precondition to produce "happiness", "certainty" as the precondition to open "wisdom" "Wisdom" as a prerequisite to "be awake", "sobriety" as a prerequisite to "no thoughts", "liberation" with "no thoughts" as a prerequisite, and "liberation" as a prerequisite to realize the fruits of liberation.


Disciples, this is like heavy rain falling from the sky, rain flowing down from high places into low-lying caves, ravines, crevices, and streams; The water of the stream continues to flow into the small pool, the water of the small pool flows into the large pool, the water of the large pool flows into the small river, the water of the small river flows into the big river, the big river, the lake, and the water of the big river, the big river, and the lake flow into the ocean. In this way, rainwater flows down from high places into low-lying caves, ravines, and crevices to form streams, and the water of streams gathers to form small pools, and the water of small pools gathers to form large pools, and the water of large pools gathers to form small rivers, and the water of small rivers gathers to form large rivers, large rivers and lakes, and the water of large rivers, large rivers and lakes gathers to form oceans. Disciples, this is the process by which the suffering and troubles of people or beings in the world are eliminated. People or sentient beings in the world who practice in this way can be freed from the troubles and sufferings of the cycle of life and death, and finally realize the fruits of liberation. ”


After the Buddha's teachings, the monks and disciples all paid homage to the Buddha again, and they all praised the immeasurable merits of the Buddha's teachings and practiced according to the Buddha's teachings.
